NEWSFLASH...

NATIONAL DISTRICT ATTORNEYS ASSOCIATION
SUMMER CONFERENCE 2016 - BOSTON, MA
On July 18, 2016, our Executive Director Kateri Nelson was invited to speak at the National District Attorneys Association's summer conference in Boston to share the work that our trauma support therapy teams did at the Aurora Theater Shooting Trial.

TRAUMA SUPPORT PROGRAM TRAINING:
WE'RE LOOKING FOR DONATIONS TO HELP US
OFFER THIS TRAINING NATIONWIDE!

First graduates of our Canine-Assisted Trauma Support program!

Created to increase the number of therapy dog teams able to provide comfort to victims during court proceedings, Animals 4 Therapy’s Canine-Assisted Trauma Support certification program helps teams prepare for the unpredictable nature of a courthouse. On June 24, five new teams visited Arapahoe County Justice Center, the last step before receiving their certification.
Sponsored by the Petco Foundation, the certification program stems from Animals 4 Therapy’s extensive experience and daily involvement in the Aurora Theater Shooting Trial, with the ultimate goal to be offered nationwide. The first graduates of the Canine-Assisted Trauma Support program include the following dog breeds or mixes, most of them coming from shelters or rescues: Labrador, Golden, Spinone Italiano, Border Collie mix, and Shepherd mix, with names like Lucy, Jasmine Rose, Lu C Fur, Darwin, and Trooper.

In order to qualify for the certification, the teams had to have at least two years of experience, be tested for their natural abilities in trauma support, and attend a full day of training focused on the justice system.

OUR THERAPY ANIMAL TEAM TRAINING...
WHEN A LITTLE EXTRA HELP IS NEEDED!

FIRST THERE IS OUR PRE-TEST...

You would like to know if you and your animal should consider therapy work? Our pre-test might be the answer. The pre-test is a temperament test with a focus on therapy work. At the end of the pre-test, we'll let you know if you and your animal "have what it takes" to become a therapy team. If you're not ready for therapy work at the pre-test, at least you'll have a choice before investing in additional training and in the certification process.
Cost: $50. By appointment only.

THANKS SUE (AND HARVEY) FOR THE GREAT TESTIMONIAL!

"I cannot thank you enough for the training sessions you held on therapy dog work. You provided so much extra information about potential issues or surprises that we could experience while volunteering as a therapy dog team.

I believe it is critical to have your hands-on training with our animal. Learning how to protect them, encourage them, keeping the loose lead, and how to introduce ourselves to potential patients was also invaluable. It certainly gave me more confidence.

Harvey and I thank you so much. Our badge came yesterday along with Harvey's tag for his collar. I just need to order his vest!!

Thanks a million.
Sue & Harvey"
